Zofia Smeja (she/her) is an experiential educator, wilderness guide, and trauma-informed youth advocate. She is passionate about connecting people to place, and believes in its powerful, reciprocal benefits for both us and our planet. Zofia first joined Riparia as an Expedition Guide on our maiden journey in 2019. She is a water woman at heart and has professionally led, planned, and managed aquatic adventures of all kinds for nearly a decade.
Zofia is inspired by the communities, students, land, and water she has worked with, including those in Southeast Alaska, the Skeena Watershed, the Ottawa Watershed, and across Ontario and Quebec. Her interests in facilitating personal growth and connection to place are woven into her guiding experiences with therapeutic behavioural healthcare for youth, experiential and land-based education courses, the work of conservation coalitions, and river rescue/whitewater paddling instruction.
